Electrophoresis Definition:
Separation of charged particles by their different rates of movement in an electric field is called electrophoresis.
Cambridge International AS and A Level Chemistry by Ryan Lawrie, Roger Norris
Electrophoresis Notes:
Electrophoresis is defined as a technique for separation of ions by rate and direction of migration in an electric field. By this method large molecules such as DNA fragments or proteins can be separated from a mixture of similar molecules. For this purpose, an electric current is passed through a medium containing the mixture. Each molecule depending on its electrical charge and size, travels through the medium at different rates. In this way the process is carried out.
