Empirical Formula Notes:
The empirical formula of a compound is defined as the formula that expresses the ratio of elements present in the compound. The actual numbers of atoms found in the molecule are not expressed by empirical formula. The denotion of ratios is done by subscripts next to the element symbols. Empirical formula is also known as simplest formula and it has a lot of importance in chemistry. We can consider the example of Glucose. It has a molecular formula of C6H12O6. The empirical formula for glucose is written as CH2O.
