Enhanced Global Warming Definition:
Increase in average temperatures around the world as a consequence of the huge increase in amounts of carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases produced by human activity.
Cambridge International AS and A Level Chemistry by Ryan Lawrie, Roger Norris
Enhanced Global Warming Notes:
Some gases in the atmosphere (the so called greenhouse gases: such as carbon dioxide, water vapour, methane, etc.) absorb heat. This heat is then converted into kinetic and potential energy. This heat is them emitted by the molecules back into our atmosphere. Some of it is absorbed by greenhouse gases and some of it is absorbed in the earth's surface. In this way there are cycles of absorption. This process slows the loss of heat to space. In this way the Earth's atmosphere becomes warmer and there is enhanced global warming.
