Introduction to Statistical Quality Control by Douglas C. Montgomery
Uptime Notes:
It does not matter how much time is available within a day. The important consideration is that for how much time the process is actually operating successfully. The term related to this consideration is called uptime. Uptime is calculated in percentage and shows the percent of time the process is actually working out of the total available time. Uptime is an important metric used in reliability. A reliable process will have a high value of uptime. In manufacturing, the uptime is calculated on the basis of the production time. For example, if the actual production time is 4 hours and the total available time is 8 hours, the uptime of the equipment or machine will be 50%.
