IDOV is a design for the Six Sigma process with identify, design, optimize, and validate stages.
Managing Quality: Integrating the Supply Chain by S. Thomas Foster
IDOV Notes:
IDOV is a Six Sigma process improvement technique which is used in relation to Design for Six Sigma. It involves four stages. The first stage is Identification which involves identifying the areas of improvement, developing quality team to carry out the improvement process, determining the objectives and requirements etc. The second step is design. This phase identifies the concept alternatives, evaluating the alternatives and selecting the best concept alternative. Tools used in this step are FMEA, simulation, engineering analysis etc. The third step is optimize which includes statistical tools to assess the capability of the process regarding tolerances. The design of product or process is optimized by eliminating any errors. The final stage of IDOV is validate. It involves testing the process. Testing is carried out to validate the optimized design. Common tools used in the fourth stage is reliability engineering, FMEA etc.
