It is important to identify if the process that is producing the products is capable or not. The process of studying process capability is called process capability analysis. Process capability can be estimated in the form of probability distributions. Although process capability analysis shows the capability of the process but the parameters that are normally measured by it are related to product i.e. functional parameters, quality characteristics etc. An efficient process capability analysis involves observing the process and collecting data and information over time regarding the process first hand to make inferences regarding process capability and stability. Process capability analysis is a necessary part of quality management which helps to reduce variability in the process.
