Non Random Variation Notes:
Non-random variation is also called special cause variation. This type of variation occurs when a non-random event occurs in a system which is controllable. This type of variation makes the process unstable and incapable of producing products that meet the specifications. The events that cause non-random variation can be a faulty equipment, bad quality raw material, worker's error etc. These may result in a shift in the process mean. Non-random variations must be eliminated from the process in order to produce quality products. For example, a worker comes to work tired and sleepy and mistakenly sets the cutting machine outside the required range. This will result in a lot of defective products. This error caused a non-random variation in the process and must be removed.
