Rational Subgroup Notes:

Rational subgroups allow to collect and arrange data into groups that are under similar conditions. In this case, variations are measured between the subgroups instead of the individual data points. In quality control, rational subgroups aid in identifying variation in control charts that is short term which in turn helps in predicting long term variations that can cause later. If the variation between the two rational subgroups is not considered, it will result in a special cause variation within the process. The observations of rational subgroups are time-ordered. Moreover, the observations does not depend on one another or it can be said that one observation is not a result of another.
