Heterogeneous catalysis is a type of catalysis in which the catalyst occupies a different phase from the reactants and products. Heterogeneous catalysts can be more easily recycled than homogeneous, but it is more difficult to characterize the catalyst and optimize properties. They are not as selective as homogenous catalysts while producing products.
