Giant Molecular Structure Definition:

Giant Molecular Structure Notes:

A giant molecular structure is a structure that consists of atoms which have many covalent bonds between them. It is a three dimensional structure. Diamond, graphite and silicon dioxide are examples. It takes a lot of energy to break the strong covalent bonds in these molecules, therefore they have high melting points. No overall charge is present, thus they cannot conduct electricity. There are very strong attractive forces between atoms thus it is very difficult to overcome them and these molecules are not soluble because of this reason.
