Chromatography is an important analytical technique used by chemists to separate and identify the compounds in a mixture. All the different types of chromatography are dependent on the equilibrium established when a compound divides itself between two phases; one mobile and the other stationary. Different compounds move along with the mobile phase at different speeds. In thin layer chromatography, the stationary phase is the solid support material . The mobile phase is the solvent. In gas-liquid chromatography. the mobile phase is a gas, such as nitrogen, and the stationary phase is a small amount of liquid. It works under the principle of partition.
