Hess's Law Definition:

Hess's Law Notes:

Hess's Law is the law of Constant Heat Summation. It states that regardless of the multiple stages or steps of a reaction, the total enthalpy change for the reaction is the sum of all changes. Which means that if there is a reaction involving various steps, the total enthalpy change of the reaction and the sum of enthalpy changes at each step are equal to each other. This law shows us that enthalpy is a state function.
