Non Competitive Inhibition Definition:

  • A type of enzyme inhibition in which the inhibitor molecule binds to a region of the enzyme surface, often at a region other than the active site is called non-competitive inhibition.

Cambridge International AS and A Level Chemistry by Ryan Lawrie, Roger Norris

Non Competitive Inhibition Notes:

Non competitive inhibition is a type of inhibition. In non-competitive inhibition, a molecule binds to an enzyme somewhere other than the active site which results in changing the enzyme's three-dimensional structure. As a result its active site can still bind with substrate but the shape of the enzyme molecule is changed which causes deformation of active site. This prevents the enzyme from reacting with its substrate.
