Addition Reaction Definition:
Addition reaction is an organic reaction in which two reactant molecules combine to give a single product molecule.

Addition Reaction Notes:
The term addition reaction itself suggests that it is the reaction in which two atoms or groups of atoms are added to a molecule. This addition is done in a way that there is one molecule on either side of a double or triple bond. An addition reaction is the reverse of an elimination reaction. For example we can perform an addition reaction by hydrating an alkene. Hydration means the addition of a water molecule. As a result of this addition reaction, an alcohol is obtained. This reaction can be reversed by the elimination of water molecule called dehydration. Addition reactions have a very important role in organic chemistry and they help us in understanding different methods of preparation of alkenes, alkanes and other organic compounds.
