Addition Polymerization Definition:
Addition polymerisation is the reaction in which monomers containing carbon-to-carbon double bonds react together to form long-chain molecules called polymers.

Addition Polymerization Notes:
The process where smaller units of molecules are combined to form a large, three-dimensional structure of polymer chains is termed as addition polymerisation. In addition polymerisation, there's a linking of monomers into a polymer chain by a chemical reaction. This chemical reaction does not produce molecular by-products. Addition polymerisation takes place in free radical mechanism. This mechanism is completed in three steps. The first one is initiation of free radical, the second one is called chain propagation and the third step is called the termination of chain. In simple words we can say that an addition polymer is a polymer that is formed by addition reaction. An important point to remember is that no by-product is formed during this process.
