Acid Base Indicator Notes:
An acid-base indicator changes colour as the concentration of hydrogen or hydroxide ion changes in an aqueous solution. It is either a weak acid or base. Acid-base indicator has a very important role in chemistry as it helps to determine the end point of an acid-base reaction during processes such as titration. Examples of acid-base indicators include litmus, methyl orange and phenolphthalein which change their colours to pink, orange, blue, red etc. depending on the reaction. For example for titration between oxalic acid and sodium hydroxide, phenolphthalein is used as an indicator.
