Active site can be defined as the specific area in an enzyme where it can perform catalytic function. Substrate molecule binds on active site to undergo a chemical reaction. We can consider it as a pocket or crevice on an enzyme molecule that fits reactant molecules like a hand in a glove. Active site is the most important part of a chemical reaction as it performs the function of catalysis directly. Active site is a protein and it lowers the activation energy for reaction.
