Acyl Chloride Notes:
Acyl group is an organic compound. It contains the -COCl functional group. It is a reactive derivative of carboxylic acids. The formula of acyl chloride is RCOCl in which R is a side chain. A common example is acetyl chloride which has the formula CH3COCl. Acyl chlorides are usually colourless liquids with a smell of vinegar. They react violently with water and that is why they are not soluble in it. They can be used in organic synthesis and dyes.
