Covalent bond is defined as a chemical bond that involves the sharing of electron pairs between atoms. The pairs of electrons that are shared are known as bonding pairs or shared pairs. The balance of attractive and repulsive forces between atoms, when the sharing of electrons is done is called covalent bonding. Examples of compounds containing covalent bonds are methane (CH4), carbon monoxide (CO), and iodine monobromide (IBr). We can understand that in methane, each hydrogen has an electron so sharing is done between these electrons and valence electrons of carbon in order to form a covalent bond.
