Le Chatelier's Principle Definition:

  • When any of the conditions affecting the position of equilibrium are changed, the position of equilibrium shifts to minimise the change. This is called Le Chatelier's principle.

Le Chatelier's Principle Notes:

Le Chatellier's principle is "The Equilibrium Law "and it can be used to predict the effect of a change in conditions on some chemical equilibrium. The principle is named after Henry Louis Le Chatelier and sometimes Karl Ferdinand Braun who discovered it . When any system at equilibrium for a long period of time is subjected to change in concentration, temperature, volume, or pressure, the system changes to a new equilibrium and this change partly counteracts the applied change. When a settled system is disturbed, it will adjust to diminish the change that has been made to it. Any change in status quo prompts an opposing reaction in the responding system or simply "The System always kicks back". In chemistry, the principle is used to manipulate the outcomes of reversible reactions
