Adsorption Definition:
Adsorption is defined as the first stage in heterogeneous catalysis- molecules of reactants (usually gases) form bonds with atoms on the surface of the catalyst.

Adsorption Notes:
Adsorption is the process in which molecules of gas, molecules of dissolved substances in liquids or molecules of liquids adhere in an extremely thin layer to surfaces of solid bodies with which they are in contact. Adsorption is a surface phenomenon and the greater is the surface of the adsorbing agent, the greater is the adsorption. Adsorption is a reversible process and it decreases with increase in temperature. It is a quick process in which equilibrium is reached within an hour. Adsorption has great importance in chemistry as many chemical reactions are speeded up when an adsorptive surface is present. It also helps to combine enzymes with substrate to give reaction products.
