The process which participates and develops from a single-called zygote to a multi-cellular organism is termed as fertilization. In the initial stages of embryonic development the fitness assurance of the organism is an important element, in which gametes (an egg and sperm) fuse to form zygote. In human, the embryonic development, started from first eight weeks, while at the start of the ninth week the embryo is termed a fetus.
