B Cell Receptor (BCR) Definition:

  • A transmembrane immunoglobulin complex on the surface of a B cell that binds an antigen and stimulates the B cell.

Prescott's Microbiology 9th Edition by Joanne Willey, Linda Sherwood, Christopher J. Woolverton

B Cell Receptor (BCR) Notes:

The B-cell receptor is made of immunoglobulin molecules, which form a transmembrane receptor protein situated on the outer surface of B cells. BCR is responsible for controlling the B-cell activation by physically acquiring antigens or through biochemical signaling. After the B-cell is activated, endocytosis takes place and the antigen presentation is carried out by APCs.
