Beta Oxidation Definition:
Degradation of long-chain fatty acids. Two-carbon fragments are formed as a result of enzymatic attack directed against the second or beta carbon of the hydrocarbon chain. Aided by coenzyme A, the fragments enter the tricarboxylic acid (TCA) cycle and are processed for ATP synthesis.

Beta-oxidation is a process, which involves catabolism of fatty acid molecules. Fatty acids are broken down in the prokaryotes cytosol and the mitochondria of eukaryotes to make acetyl-CoA. This enters the TCA and FADH2 and NADH are co-enzymes used in ETC.
