Antiport Definition:
Coupled transport of two molecules in which one molecule enters the cell as the other leaves the cell.
Prescott's Microbiology 9th Edition by Joanne Willey, Linda Sherwood, Christopher J. Woolverton
Antiport Notes:
Antiport is a process in which a cell moves an ion across the membrane, down the concentration gradient in order to move and provide power for the second molecule to move it against the concentration gradient i.e. "uphill". In this way, two different substances or molecules are transported through the membrane in opposite directions.
