Acetyl-CoA is a combination of coenzyme A and acetic acid. Acetyl-CoA is manufactured by several catabolic pathways and is the substrate for fatty acid biosynthesis, TCA and a few other pathways. The main function of acetyl-CoA is to transfer the acetyl group to the Krebs cycle to oxidize it for the production of energy.
