Acetyl CoA Pathway Definition:
A biochemical pathway used by methanogens to fix CO2 and by acetogens to generate acetic acid.
Prescott's Microbiology 9th Edition by Joanne Willey, Linda Sherwood, Christopher J. Woolverton
Acetyl CoA Pathway Notes:
The acetyl-CoA pathway is a biochemical pathway that uses CO2 as a source of carbon and most often, it uses H2 as a donor of electron to produce acetyl-CoA. Methanogens use this pathway of acetyl-CoA to fix carbon dioxide and acetogens use this pathway for the formation of acetic acid. Acetyl-CoA synthase and carbon monoxide dehydrogenase are the two enzymes that are being used in this pathway for the production of acetyl-CoA.
