Specifications are the desired measurements for the quality characteristics of the components and subassemblies that make up the product, as well as the desired values for the quality characteristics in the final product.

Specifications are the requirements that are to be fulfilled by a product or a service. Quality characteristics are closely related to specifications. In fact, quality characteristics are measures in relation to the specifications. The desired values of quality characteristics are termed as specifications. Specification acts as a standard with which quality characteristics of products and services are evaluated. Specifications can be of different types. Some of them include design specifications, material specifications, performance specifications, test specifications, quality specifications etc. Quality specifications refer to the requirements that define the product or service. Examples of specifications are diameter, smell, taste, time required to process an order etc.
