Managing Quality: Integrating the Supply Chain by S. Thomas Foster
Complementary Products Notes:
Complementary products are those products that complement the demand of another product of the same product group. While managing demand of a specific product (base product) and its associated life cycle, an organization tend to introduce a new product whose demand is interrelated with the demand of the base product. Complementary products can either be better versions of the base products or can be a supporting item of the existing products. Usually complementary products have little value when they are used alone but when they are combined with the base products, their worth is exceptional. Products sold in place of each other in different seasons can also be considered complementary products. For example, mobile cover is a complementary product for mobile phone (base product).
