Design for Manufacture Notes:
While designing a product, it should be considered first if the designed product can be manufactured or not. This consideration is translated as design for manufacture. It means that the product design should be easy to make and the organization must possess the technology required to build it. It also includes the cost of manufacturing the product i.e. making the designed product should be cost-effective. For example, a design engineer generates a unique idea of a new product and designs it efficiently but when the product design moves to the stage of process design, it is revealed that the material needed for the product is very expensive. Moreover, the process technology available needs some changes too. In this case, we can say that the product was not designed keeping the concept of design for manufacture.
