Fault Tree Analysis Definition:

Fault Tree Analysis Notes:

Fault tree analysis is a method to identify and assess the faults within a system and their chances of occurrence. The faults can be due to the events occurring in the system. These events can be normal or abnormal but the importance of their occurrence lies within the sequence. It is a top down approach which divides the whole system into levels, analyze any undesired events at each level and determine their causes so that they can be eliminated from the system. The process of fault tree analysis includes defining the system, identifying faults in the first level, identifying the causes of the faults, identifying faults at all other levels, determining the root causes, adding chances of occurrences (probabilities) to all the faults/events, analysis of the tree and documentation.
