Electronic data interchange (EDI) is a system that helps to link the supplier and the customer. It is important to understand that in the modern world, customer is the King. Customers must be involves in each and every step of the production process, be it procurement of material or product design. Customers and supplier information systems can be linked so that customers can help suppliers identify any errors in their systems e.g. bottle necks, increased setup times/lead times. Linking all three aspects i.e. business, suppliers and customers together not only reduces the amount of time of the activities which were previously done manually but also reduce the cost.
