An integrative approach is nowadays used to integrate different processes involves in the development of a product. The concept of design for manufacture allows an organization to combine the design and manufacturing process personnel so that they can design a product that is easy to manufacture and also within the scope of the available technology. Many techniques are used to implement this integrative approach. One of them is product data management. As the name indicates, product data management is a tool which links all the stages of a product development. It is a computer software that acts as a central system to manage all the data related to product design and development phase including design models, information of parts, instructions for production and other necessary requirements. It also helps in making bill of material (BOM) which is used in the production phase.
