It is important in the modern manufacturing world that a strong relationship with suppliers is maintained. Also, the quality of the products depend upon the quality of the raw material. In order to improve quality, firms take suppliers under their wing of quality management as well. One of the way to develop good relation with suppliers is single sourcing. This enables the firms to reduce the number of suppliers so that strong relations can be made and maintained with them for a longer time of contract. Single sourcing usually leads to strategic alliances through which the supplier works so closely to the firm that it appears to be a part of the customer organization.
