Value Stream Mapping Notes:
Value stream mapping comes under the area of lean management. It is a method that evaluate current state for a set of processes and design a future state for the same set, starting from the supplier to the end user, by reducing all the value added activities (considered as waste in the concept of lean management). The technique is used for analysis, documentation and improvement of a series of activities. The analysis requires developing flow charts and then identifying which activities are useless and do not add value to the product or service in question. In this way, the core/value added activities are prioritized, thus reducing production cost.
