Sample Notes:

Inferences and estimations are to be made for a population. However, sometimes, the population size is very large and it is not possible to consider every data value of population in the calculations. Due to this reason, a small set of data values is drawn out of the population. This group of data values is called sample. A sample is considered to be a representative of the whole population and expected to possess all the characteristics of the overall population. Samples can be of different types. Some are random sample, cluster sample, systematic sample etc. For example, if the average height of 15 years old boys in Pakistan is to be determined, the whole population of 15 years old Pakistani boys cannot be considered. Rather a sample will be drawn and the average height will be estimated based on that sample.
