Managing Quality: Integrating the Supply Chain by S. Thomas Foster

Supply Chain Notes:

Supply chain is the most important concept in the modern world of manufacturing. It involves all the activities ranging from the procurement of raw material to the shipment of end product to the customers. Supply chain is divided in 3 phases. First phase is related to acquiring the raw material from the suppliers, its handling and storage and distribution/allocation of this material to the production process. The second phase involves all the manufacturing processes that are required to transform the raw material into the finished goods. It also involves the waiting time between the two operations and material handling within the process. The third phase of supply chain is related to the storage of end product, receiving orders from customers, packaging and sending the packed products to the customers.
