Six Sigma Notes:
While defining Six Sigma by parts, the second part of the term is the Greek symbol σ which means standard deviation. The first part is Six (6) which refers to the six standard deviations from the mean (specification limit) of a process. Six Sigma is a popular approach in quality improvement. The program of Six Sigma was introduced by Motorola in 1982. Using Six Sigma, almost 90% of the quality problems can be handled. By setting 6 standard deviations from the mean, the chances of producing bad products is very low. The companies using Six Sigma can produce 99.99999% quality products. A famous example of Six Sigma usage is "Mumbai Dabbawala" which is the only business successfully using Six Sigma in service industry.
