When acceptance sampling is selected as a technique for quality control, it is important to choose the appropriate sampling plan. A sampling plan helps to determine the way of data collection and when and where data will be collected. Numerous sampling plans can be used among which one plan is named as chain sampling plan. Chain sampling plan was proposed by Dodge in 1955. Chain sampling plan uses the results of previously inspected lots if a non-conforming item is detected in currently inspected lot. Chain sampling plan is used when the inspection of the products is expensive or destructive testing is to be performed.
