Product Idea Generation Notes:
Product idea generation is a step involves in the design process. In the process of idea generation, new ideas are brainstormed and generated through two sources. The first source is internal source. Internal sources involve product design suggestions within the organization that include management, finance, R&D, marketing, and employees. The second source of idea generation is external sources, the most important of which is customer. Through identifying customers' needs, demands and preferences, ideas for new products are generated. Other external sources may be consultants, market/industry experts, suppliers, competitors etc. Ideas can also be generated by R&D team. The difference between the ideas generated by R&D and market related sources is that the former product has to be pushed into the market while the later one is originally generated by the market and pushed into the R&D system.
