Managing Quality: Integrating the Supply Chain by S. Thomas Foster
Robust Design Notes:
The overall concept of quality management is to produce a batch of products that does not have any defective items. Taguchi proposed a model of robust design that focuses on producing defect-free products. According to this design, the product should also be unaffected by common cause variations in the process. The approach of robust design involves three steps. The first step is concept design. This step involves the evaluation of different process designs and technologies and the selection of the best of the alternatives. The second step is parameter design which refers to the parameter/factors associated with the process, their selection and finding the optimal level for these control factors. The third and final step of the method is tolerance design which aids in setting specification limits for the products.
