There are several reliability models used in the reliability studies. The most common model is bath tub hazard function. It is a graphical reliability model. The vertical axis (y axis) of the bath tub hazard function shows the failure rate i.e. the frequency of a product's failure. The horizontal axis (x axis) shows the time. The bath tub hazard function shows the rate at which a product fails over time. It can be noted that a product is more likely to fail either in the early years or the later years of its life. In between, the chances of failure are very less and the product works just fine. Due to this fact, organizations usually offer warranty for a product for the starting one to three years.
