Process Capability Ratio Notes:
In order to properly understand if a process is capable or not, there must be a quantitative way as numbers are easily understandable. A way to quantify the process capability is process capability ratios. Process capability ratios involve the use of defined specification limits of the product. The capability ratio, Cp, is calculated by subtracting lower specification limit from upper specification limit and dividing the difference over 6 sigma. Sigma in this formula refer to the process standard deviation. Process standard deviation is usually unknown and an estimate has to be made for its value. Process capability ratio is the most common measure of process capability used in the industry.
