Defects per Unit Notes:
Sometimes, the dimensions or characteristics of the products produced by a process cannot be quantified to a continuous numerical value. In these cases the performance of the process is measured using attributes. Attributes are the characteristics that can take on discrete values of 0 or 1, yes or no conforming or non-conforming etc. In the situations of calculating process capability based on attribute data, a new measure of process capability can be used which is called defects per unit. Considering non- conformities, the defects per unit can be calculated as the total number of defects divided by the total number of produced units.
