Resource optimization is used to adjust the start and finish dates of activities to adjust planned resource use to be equal to or less than resource availability.

Resource Optimization Notes:
As a project is a resource-limited endeavor, the available resources for a project must be utilized effectively. Resource utilization is the process of adjusting the use of resources according to the availability. Usually, same resources are needed for different activities. To make the resources available for each activity provides the basis for resources utilization. This is usually done by adjusting the start and end dates and time of the activities. Different resource optimization techniques are used in project management to balance the demand and supply of the resources. One technique is called resource leveling which involves start and finish dates of the activities are adjusted to make the resources available. Another technique is called resource smoothing that involves adjusting the activities in a way that the required resources does not exceed the limit.
