Introduction to Statistical Quality Control by Douglas C. Montgomery
Concurrent Engineering Notes:
Typically, a normal production process includes a sequence of work, from design and development to production and shipment. A disadvantage of this type of methodology is the increased development time and rejection of a product after completion due to a defect at design phase. A better way is to parallelize the work and simultaneously run the different phases of product development and production. A work methodology presently used to achieve this goal is concurrent engineering. Concurrent engineering involves the formation of cross-functional teams. This allows engineers and managers of different disciplines to work together simultaneously in developing product and process designs. It helps to reduce development time and increase productivity.
