Start to finish (SF) is defined as a logical relationship in which a successor activity cannot finish until a predecessor activity has started.

Start to Finish Notes:
Important of relationships in a project schedule needs to be considered. It is necessary to understand that project related activities are linked together and relates to each other in a project schedule. The relationships are logical in nature. The concepts of predecessor and successor activities are used to describe the relationships between the tasks and activities. A predecessor activity logically is performed before an activity and the successor actvity must be performed after a particular activity. Different relationships can be established between the activities. One of them is called start to finish (SF). Start to finish is a logical relationship which shows that a successor activity cannot be finished unless the predecessor activity is started. For example, a computerized inventory system (successor) must be implemented before the manual inventory system (predecessor) is shut down.
