Scheduling provides the direction on how and when the project associated activities must be performed and project deliverables be provided. It involves defining the activities and tasks, estimating the activity durations and developing dependencies and relationships. Different scheduling methods can be used to develop a project schedule. One of them is called on-demand scheduling. On-demand scheduling is usually done for the projects that are incrementally evolved. The concept of on-demand scheduling is related to lean manufacturing where the products are produced only when there is a demand. Using on-demand scheduling, the work is pulled from a queue when the resources are available. On-demand scheduling is done in order to balance the demand against the workers' output.
