Control elements Definition:
Associated with most eukaryotic genes are multiple control elements, segments of noncoding DNA that serve as binding sites for the proteins called transcription factors, which in turn regulate transcription.

Control elements Notes:
Control element is basically a generic term for a region of DNA, such as a promoter or enhancer adjacent to or within a gene that allows the regulation of gene expression by the binding of transcription factors. These sites do not code for a gene themselves however they provide sites for important proteins for binding so that the transcription process can be initiated.
