Stratification Definition:
Stratification is defined as a tendency for the points to cluster artificially around the center line.
Introduction to Statistical Quality Control by Douglas C. Montgomery
Stratification Notes:
Different types of control charts are used in process monitoring. The data that is measured in the process provides basis for the use of a specific type of control chart. After the control charts are developed, they are interpreted in order to properly understand what is going on in the process. Control charts can include some non-random patterns. A non-random pattern that indicates the grouping of many data points along the center line is called stratification. Stratification shows a lack of randomness or variability in the data points. Stratification may occur if the control limits are not calculated correctly. Moreover, if the units collected in a subgroup belong to different distributions, stratification occurs.
